Mehedi Hasan Miraj shines in times of danger. He has become Bangladesh’s ‘crisis man’ by pulling the team from the edge of the abyss. Bangladesh’s star all-rounder now aims to go even higher.
Miraj is playing brilliantly in all departments, batting and bowling. He touched the milestone of 200 wickets and 2000 runs in Tests in the recently concluded Zimbabwe series. The Bangladesh Cricket Supporters Association (BCSA) presented the award in recognition of that today in Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla. The Bangladesh all-rounder told reporters about the award, “Of course it is a great feeling. It would be even better if I could reach number one (in the all-rounder rankings).”
Miraj played 53 Tests in 9 years from 2016 to 2025. He scored 2,068 runs in the royal version of cricket with 2 centuries and 9 fifties. He took 205 wickets in bowling. Regarding what he is doing to reach the elite club of 400 wickets and 5,000 runs in Tests, Miraj told reporters, “Of course, the goal is to go much higher. I have to cover a long way. I have to play well from being fit. But I am not thinking big (400 wickets and 5,000 runs). I am trying to move forward with small goals.”
Shakib Al Hasan is Bangladesh’s highest wicket-taker in Tests. He has taken 246 wickets in 71 matches in the royal version of cricket. Taijul Islam and Miraj are second and third in the list of wicket-takers in Tests among Bangladeshi bowlers with 228 and 205 wickets. Miraj would be very happy to achieve any goal in the Bangladesh jersey. The star Bangladesh cricketer said, “It would be great to have such a milestone (Bangladesh’s highest wicket-taker in Tests). Be it any version, it would be very nice to achieve it for Bangladesh.”
Last week’s ICC weekly rankings showed that Mirage is ranked second in the Test all-rounder rankings. His rating points are 327. Mirage has risen to second place after surpassing Marco Janssen. Ravindra Jadeja, who is at the top of the Test all-rounder rankings, has a rating point of 400. He was the man of the series with 116 runs and 15 wickets in the series against Zimbabwe that ended a few days ago. Chittagong’s Birshrestha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman scored a record-breaking century in the second Test at the stadium. Mirage has also been nominated for the ICC’s list of the best cricketers of April. The Bangladesh star all-rounder’s rivals here are Zimbabwe’s Blessing Mujarabani and New Zealand’s Ben Sears.
